Kathmandu Sightseeing

Kathmandu is the capital and largest metropolitan city of Nepal. The city is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which also contains two sister cities namely Patan or Lalitpur, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to its southeast (an ancient city of fine arts and crafts) and Bhaktapur, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) to its east (city of devotees). The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal surrounded by four major mountains, namely: Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri.

It is inhabited by 671,846 (2001) people. The Kathmandu valley with its three districts including Kathmandu District accounts for a population density of only 97 per km2 whereas Kathmandu metropolitan city has a density of 13,225 per km2. It is by far the largest urban agglomerate in Nepal, accounting for 20% of the urban population in an area of 5,067 hectares. Kathmandu, as the gateway to Nepal Tourism, is the nerve centre of the country’s economy. The city’s rich history is nearly 2000 years old, as inferred from an inscription in the valley. Its religious affiliations are dominantly Hindu followed by Buddhism. People of other religious beliefs also live in Kathmandu giving it a cosmopolitan culture. Nepali is the common language of the city, though many speak the Nepal Bhasa Newari as it is the center of the Newar (meaning: citizens of Nepal) people and culture.

PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE : 
Situated 5 kilometers ease of Kathmandu city, Pashupatinath temple is one of the holiest Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated amidst a lush green natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple built in pagoda style has gilted roof and richly carved silver doors. Visitors will be permitted to view the temple from the east bank of River Bagmati, entrance in the temple being strictly forbidden to all non Hindus. Pasupatinath is the centre of annual pilgrimage on the day of Shivaratri, which falls in the month of February/March. Behind the temples are the cremation grounds


SWAYAMBHUNATH TEMPLE : 
Located approximately 4 km/2.5 miles, Buddhist stupa this is said to be 2000 years old. The stupa which forms the main structure is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. Painted on the four sided base of the spire are the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. This hill is a mosaic of small Chaityas and Pagoda temples.


BOUDHANATH : 
This stupa, eight kilometers east of Kathmandu City is one of the biggest in the world of its kind. It stand with four pairs of eyes in the four cardinal direction keeping watch for righteous behaviour and human prosperity. This Buddhist stupa was built by King Man Deva at the advice of Goddess Mani Jogini. It is built on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels. The shrine is ringed by houses of Lamas of Buddhist priests.


PATAN :  
5km/3miles away from Kathmandu city. Patan also known as Lalitpur, is the city of fine arts, enclosed within 4 stupas said to be built in 3rd century AD, by Emperor Ashoka. You will see the Durbar Square, the Patan Durbar which houses a bronze collection, the Krishna Temple built by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar and Mahaboudha Temple. 


A trip to The Tibetan Refugee Camp and the Handicraft Centre will also be done while visiting Patan, where you will witness the hand weaving of Tibetan carpets and moulding of metal statues.

Day 1.

Kathmandu - Arrival. Our representative will be at Kathmandu airport & transfer to Hotel. Rest & overnight @ Hotel.

Day 2.

After Breakfast meet our city guide at the hotel reception/lobby for Kathmandu sight seeing and he will take you to: -

  • Durbar Square at Basantpur   
  •  Boudhanath
  •  Syambhu
  •  Pasupatinath and many others Temple

      (Evening Free for personal Activities)

Day 3.

Option 1:  Tour in Bhaktpur & Patan by licensed guide and overnight at Nagarkot (from where you will have the view of sunset on Himalaya and next day early in the morning sunrise on the Himalaya) or

Option 2:  Bungy jump at Bhote Koshi river and return back to Kathmandu or

Option 3:  One day river rafting in Trishuli River. Return back to Kathmandu or after rafting going to Pokhara/Chitwan by bus option.

Day 4.

Kathmandu or Pokhara or Chitwan.

Option 1: After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu from Nagarkot.

Option 2 or 3: After breakfast enjoy your day in Kathmandu or Pokhara or Chitwan.
